The Coxsackie viruses are divided into groups A and B. According to the RKI, Coxsackie A viruses lead to hand, foot and mouth diseases. Occasionally they can also cause symptoms of meningitis. Heart failure can become life threatening

Many heart operations have now become routine operations. Their number has increased significantly in recent years. “The question arises whether surgery is always the best treatment option,” says Köster-Steinebach. In the case of cardiac interventions, alternatives could be medication, but also more exercise, weight loss and physiotherapy.
Hospitals are doing more coronary artery operations
A study was carried out on hospital treatment in Germany as part of the 2014 Barmer GEK hospital report. The focus is on the numerous heart operations to prevent blockage of the coronary arteries. In the past year, patients underwent this type of procedure or bypass surgery in more than 330,000 hospital cases. Although fewer people have been in hospital for coronary artery disease in recent years, certain operations have been performed significantly more often.
The report attributes the increase in operations in part to the fact that patients with coronary artery disease are now also being treated who were previously out of the question for treatment due to their age or other illnesses. In addition, people with other heart diseases are increasingly being treated.

Köster-Steinebach cites cardiac valve surgery as another example of the rapidly increasing number of operations. In 2008 there were 11,700 such interventions. Of these, 11,200 were classic operations with opening the thorax. By 2012, the number of heart valve operations had risen sharply to 19,200. The number of classic interventions has decreased by 1200. There have been more than 9,000 such interventions using a newer method, according to which a replacement valve is folded up and inserted via a catheter.
Although this newer variant is less stressful for older patients, for example, it carries the risk of serious side effects, according to Köster-Steinebach. In this respect, doubts are appropriate as to whether the increase is really medically justified. Patients who are advised by doctors to undergo major surgery that can be planned should make sure that treatment alternatives are explained to them, says the health expert. Köster-Steinebach also cites the example of certain stents that are increasingly used to prevent vasoconstriction in the heart. The number of interventions with such coated stents has increased by 224 percent since 2005. Many of these interventions are not carried out to reduce mortality, but to improve the quality of life, says the expert. “The problem now is that nobody examines the quality of life achieved or its improvement after the interventions.”
Köster-Steinebach appeals to health policy to shift the financial incentives for clinics away from large, plannable operations towards emergency and basic care.
New impulses for the planned hospital reform
The Barmer GEK claims to be able to give advice on the planned hospital reform based on its results. The project is currently being negotiated in camera by the federal and state governments and representatives of the coalition factions in a joint working group.
Köster-Steinebach opposed to implementing the deductions for clinics considered by the coalition for comparatively poorer performance. “That doesn’t do much good for affected patients in retrospect,” she said. Garlic contains numerous vitamins and minerals
“Garlic was mentioned as a remedy in ancient Egyptian writings from around 1550 BC and is still considered a prophylactic and remedy for many diseases today,” explains Margret Morlo from the Association for Nutrition and Dietetics in Aachen.
